The McNeese Cowboys will travel to David R. Stopher Gymnasium to take on the Nicholls Colonels this Thursday night in College Basketball action.

The McNeese Cowboys improved to 10-16 on the season after defeating the Northwestern State Demons, 80-75, this past Saturday. McNeese allowed Northwestern State to fight back from a 42-35 halftime deficit to take a 66-61 lead with just 6:36 left in regulation, however, the Cowboys were outstanding defensively down the stretch and took the lead for good after a 15-0 run gave McNeese a double-digit lead just over a minute left in the game. McNeese shot 47.2% from the field & 40.0% from beyond the arc while allowing Northwestern State to shoot 44.4% from the field & 33.3% from beyond the arc. Leading the way for the Cowboys was Zach Scott who had 21 points, 6 rebounds, & 3 steals.

On the season, McNeese is averaging 77.3 ppg on 45.3% shooting from the field. The Cowboys are averaging 6.7 three-pointers per game on 32.7% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, McNeese has been led by Christian Shumate (12.0 ppg, 6.5 rpg, 1.0 apg), Zach Scott (10.2 ppg, 2.9 rpg, 1.2 apg, 1.3 spg), Brendan Medley-Bacon (10.1 ppg, 6.3 rpg, 1.0 apg), & Kellon Taylor (10.0 ppg, 5.6 rpg, 2.8 apg).

Defensively, McNeese is allowing their opponents to average 75.1 ppg on 44.0% shooting from the field. The Cowboys have a rebound margin of 5.5 and a turnover margin of -0.8.

The Nicholls Colonels won their 5th straight game and improved to 16-9 on the season after defeating the Texas A&M-CC Islanders, 83-80 (OT), this past Saturday. Nicholls was able to fight back from a 68-56 deficit with 9:43 left in regulation to force OT and took the lead for good after a Ty Gordon three-pointer gave the Colonels a 75-72 lead with 3:52 left in OT. Nicholls shot 42.7% from the field & 19.4% from beyond the arc while allowing Texas A&M-CC to shoot 34.1% from the field & 32.0% from beyond the arc. Leading the way for the Colonels was Ty Gordon who had 21 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, & 3 steals.

On the season, Nicholls is averaging 78.5 ppg on 46.9% shooting from the field. The Colonels are averaging 8.2 three-pointers per game on 33.2% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Nicholls has been led by Ty Gordon (19.3 ppg, 3.5 rpg, 3.0 apg, 1.6 spg), Devante Carter (12.2 ppg, 3.8 rpg, 3.4 apg, 2.0 spg), Latrell Jones (10.0 ppg, 3.0 rpg), & Pierce Spencer (9.7 ppg, 5.6 rpg, 2.5 apg, 1.7 spg).

Defensively, Nicholls is allowing their opponents to an average of 70.6 ppg on 41.5% shooting from the field. The Colonels have a rebound margin of 2.9 and a turnover margin of 3.1.

The Cowboys are 3-0-1 ATS in their last 4 road games & 4-1-1 ATS in their last 6 road games vs. a team with a winning home record. The Colonels are 0-5 ATS in their last 5 home games & 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games following a ATS loss.

McNeese has been solid on the offensive side this season, ranking 45th in scoring offense, however, the Cowboys are just 2-10 on the road and have struggled keeping opponents off the scoreboard as they come into this matchup ranked just 310th in scoring defense. Nicholls is 8-1 at home with an offense ranks 29th in scoring offense & 48th in FG%, and as I think the Colonels will be able to pull away in the 2nd half for a double-digit victory, I’m taking Nicholls to cover this home spread. Good Luck!
