The Northwestern State Demons and the Nicholls State Colonels meet Thursday in college basketball action from Stopher Gym. Northwestern State is 4-14 on the year so far. The Demons lost to SE Louisiana in their last outing. As for Nicholls State, they’re sitting at 10-8 and fresh off a loss to New Orleans. Northwestern State has certainly had their difficulties this year; they’re yet to win consecutive games. Since their last victory over Incarnate Word on January 7, the Demons have lost another pair to New Orleans and SE Louisiana.
Back on Saturday in the SE Louisiana matchup, the Demons kept the pace well in the first half with a 40-40 tie. Northwestern State faded from there on a 39-34 deficit in a 79-74 loss. Larry Owens was tops on the team with 21 points and eight rebounds.
Over on the Nicholls State side, they hit a 7-3 run over their first 10 games. It’s been a 3-5 stretch since then for the Colonels. The losses in that time have been to Wisconsin, Oregon State, Purdue, SE Louisiana and New Orleans.

PICK: I’m going to try Nicholls State. There’s not a whole lot to get excited about here, though. That said, The Colonels haven’t scored too badly during this sketchy 3-5 run. They’ve hit 68 or more points in six of those eight matchups. There should be plenty of scoring opportunities here; the Demons have given up 79 or more points in each of their last six games. If Nicholls State can find a good offensive rhythm early they should be fine on a cover.
