The Gardner-Webb bulldogs and the North Carolina Tar Heels meet in college basketball action from the Dean Smith Center on Tuesday night.
The Gardner-Webb Bulldogs will be out to rebound from an 86-71 loss to Stephen F. Austin last time out. Julien Soumaoro led the charge, putting up 14 points on 3 of 6 shooting with a pair of threes while Quest Aldridge added 13 points on 4 of 8 shooting with 3 threes. Kareem Reid chipped in 12 points on 6 of 12 shooting and Caleb Robinson added 10 points with 5 rebounds to finish off the scoring in double figures for Gardner-Webb in the loss. DQ Nicholas also added 9 points with 6 rebounds and 3 assists while Lucas Stieber also dished out a team-high 7 assists.
The North Carolina Tar Heels will hope to build off of their 102-86 win over Charleston in their last game. Armando Bacot led the Tar Heels with 18 points on 10 of 13 shooting with 6 rebounds, 3 steals and a pair of blocks while Caleb Love added 15 points on 8 of 17 shooting with team-highs of 9 rebounds and 6 assists. Leaky Black chipped in 15 points on 6 of 6 shooting with a pair of threes and 5 rebounds and R.J. Davis added 11 points on 4 of 8 shooting with 3 assists to finish off the group of double-digit scorers for UNC in the win.
Gardner-Webb is 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games overall and 2-7 ATS in their last 9 games against a team with a winning percentage above .600 while the over is 4-1 in their last 5 road games. North Carolina is 10-3 ATS in their last 13 games overall and 5-1-1 ATS in their last 7 games following an ATS loss while the over is 5-1 in their last 6 home games against a team with a losing road record.
I get the case to be made for an underdog in certain spots, but while UNC’s disappointed from an ATS perspective early on and also looked shaky in the first half against Charleston, the Tar Heels really woke up in the second half against the Cougars and may have finally flipped a switch and woke up to answer the call. Gardner-Webb has just had trouble in these step up spots which includes a 40-point loss to Duke last season. I think this one is all Tar Heels, so give me UNC.
