The Akron Zips and the Ohio Bobcats meet Friday in college basketball action from Ohio University Convocation Center. Akron is currently 18-9 on the year. The Zips beat Bowling Green in their last game. As for Ohio, they’re sitting at 23-5 and coming off a win over Central Michigan. Akron was sitting at 16-6 back in early February and had only lost consecutive games once all year. After a three-game losing streak to Kent State, Western Michigan and Northern Illinois, the Zips bounced back with wins over Eastern Michigan and Bowling Green.

Matched up against Bowling Green on Tuesday, the Zips posted 35 points in the first half and 47 more after the break in an 82-68 win. Ali Ali and Mikal Dawson each notched 17 points with a combined six assists and six boards.

Over on the Ohio side, they’ve been a highly consistent team all season and have yet to lose two games consecutively. The Bobcats are on a 4-1 run in the last five outings, beating Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Miami OH and Central Michigan again.

In the Tuesday game versus Central Michigan, the Bobcats had a 33-22 lead by halftime. Ohio would then hit a 43-28 run in the second for a 76-50 win. Tommy Schmock was the leading team scorer on his 23 points and three boards.

Ohio is 21-10 ATS in their last 31 after an ATS win and the over is 20-6-1 in their last 27 at home. The over is 7-1 in the Bobcats’ last eight after an ATS win.

Meanwhile, the Zips are 1-5 ATS in their last six Friday games and the over is 11-5 in their last 16 after an ATS win. The under is 38-16 in Akron’s last 54 Friday games.

PICK: I’m going to try Ohio in this one. We should have a pretty good matchup here regardless, though. The Bobcats have had a couple of rough games versus Kent State and Toledo lately, but otherwise they’ve been on a great run and scoring well. The last time these teams met up back on January 4, Ohio pulled off a 69-63 road victory. This one is likely to be pretty competitive as well, and I like the Bobcats to power through the home cover.
