Old Dominion vs Louisiana 12/31/22 College Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds

The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns and the Old Dominion Monarchs meet Saturday in college basketball action from Ted Constant Convocation Center. The Cajuns are fresh off a Thursday matchup versus Coastal Carolina. In that one Louisiana fell in a close game. As for Old Dominion, they played Arkansas State in their Thursday game. Louisiana lost just one of their first six games this year to Drake on November 26. In the next six games the Cajuns went 5-1 again, beating Loyola, New Orleans, Samford, LA College and McNeese State before a loss to Texas. 

On Thursday versus Coastal Carolina, the Cajuns trailed 38-35 by halftime. Louisiana posted a 41-39 edge from there but still lost 77-76. Leading scorer Jordan Brown posted 25 points with nine rebounds and one assist. 

Over on the Old Dominion side, they were 3-3 through six games this year with losses to Drexel, Virginia Tech and Davidson. The Monarchs hit a 5-1 run from there, beating East Carolina, Norfolk State, William & Mary, Gardner-Webb and George Mason. 

Matched up against Arkansas State on Thursday, the Monarchs were outscored 29-16 in the first half. Old Dominion got better with 41 second-half points but ended up losing 60-57. Tyreek Scott-Grayson put up 16 points with seven rebounds to lead the way. 

PICK: I’ll probably stick with Louisiana. This should be an interesting matchup between two comparable teams that are both coming off tough losses, though. The Cajuns have scored 72 or more points in three straight games, but they’ve also given up 70 or more in all three as well. Old Dominion has been a mixed bag scoring-wise, however they’ve managed 68 or more points in three of their last five and should have some scoring opportunities in this one. It’ll be close, but I think the Cajuns can power it out.
