The Washington State Cougars and the Oregon Ducks meet Thursday in college basketball action from Matthew Knight Arena. Washington State is 3-2 so far this year. The Cougars beat Detroit in their last game. As for Oregon, they’re 3-4 on the season after a win versus Villanova on Sunday. Washington State managed a blowout win over Texas State in their opener but then fell 71-61 to Boise State in game two. The Cougars fell again to Prairie View in game three but bounced back with a win over Eastern Washington.

Last Friday versus Detroit, Washington State didn’t have much trouble. The Cougars got off to a 56-23 lead by the break and cruised to a 96-54 blowout win. Jabe Mullins led the way with 22 points, and Justin Powell added 17 points.

Over on the Oregon side, they started out the year with a 2-1 record and wins over Florida A&M and Montana State. The Ducks lost their next three games to some tough opponents in Houston, UConn and Michigan State, though.

Oregon got back to business on Sunday with a matchup versus Villanova. The Ducks hit a 35-31 run in the first half and a 39-36 stretch from there in a 74-67 win. Quincy Guerrier led the way on 21 points. Will Richardson added 19 points and eight assists as well.

PICK: I’m likely staying with Oregon. The Ducks have seen their record this year ravaged by matchups against top-shelf national teams (and an odd 15-point loss to UC Irvine). In comparable games however, Oregon is generally doing well. They’ve hit 74 or more points in each of their three wins, and shot 44.1 percent from the field with 42 rebounds in the Villanova game. As for Washington State, they’ve notched 82 or more points in each of their three wins and should provide a good test for Oregon. I like this one to be fairly competitive and a fun game to watch.
