The Alabama State Hornets and the Pitt Panthers meet in college basketball action from Petersen Events Center on Sunday.

The Alabama State Hornets will look to bounce back from a 70-57 loss to San Jose State last time out. TJ Madlock leads the Hornets in scoring with 14.8 PPG along with 3.5 RPG while Isaiah Range has 10 PPG as the only other double-digit scorer for Alabama State so far this season. Alex Anderson also has 9 PPG with team-highs of 5 RPG and 3.3 APG this season. As a team, Alabama State is averaging 61.8 PPG on 33.1% shooting from the field, 32% from three and 72.9% from the foul line this season.

The Pitt Panthers will try to bounce back from a 71-67 loss to VCU last time out. Blake Hinson leads Pitt in scoring and rebounding with 15.8 PPG and 6.3 RPG while Jamarius Burton has 13.5 PPG with 6 RPG and Greg Elliott has 10 PPG to cap off the trio of double-digit scorers for Pitt up to this point in the year. Nelly Cummings also has 7.8 PPG and a team-high 3.8 APG to lead Pitt in assists this season. As a team, Pitt is averaging 65.8 PPG on 40.4% shooting from the field, 25.5% from three and 68.3% from the foul line this season.

Alabama State is 0-3-1 ATS in their last 4 Sunday games and 11-2 ATS in their last 13 road games against a team with a losing home record while the over is 7-0 in their last 7 games against a team with a winning percentage below .400. Pitt is 1-6 ATS in their last 7 home games and 1-7-1 ATS in their last 9 games overall while the under is 6-0 in their last 6 Sunday games.

I get the case to be made for a decent sized underdog, but Alabama State’s been brutal this season and even against Pitt, I don’t see that changing. Pitt’s problem has been that they can’t hang with the better teams that they’ve gone up against, but the lone game where they were the better team, against UT-Martin, Pitt won by 22 points. I’m not rushing to the window to bet this one, but I’d side with Pitt here.
