The TN-Martin Skyhawks and the Pittsburgh Panthers meet Monday in college basketball action from Petersen Events Center. TN-Martin is coming off a disappointing season at 8-22 overall and a rough 4-14 run in Ohio Valley Conference matchups. As for Pittsburgh, they went 11-21 overall last season with a 6-14 record in ACC play. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.

TN-Martin took a step back from their mark in the 2020-21 campaign last year (8-16 overall; 11-4 in OVC games), ultimately finishing 8-22 overall and 4-14 in the Ohio Valley Conference. That result left the Skyhawks just one spot out of the basement in the standings.

TN-Martin started out the year at 3-3, then hit a difficult 1-5 run as non-conference play came to a close. The Skyhawks won their first two conference games, but then hit the skids. TN-Martin would win just two of their final 16 outings.

Over on the Pittsburgh side, they had a pretty difficult campaign in 2021-22 as well. The Panthers went 11-21 overall and just 6-14 in Atlantic Coast Conference play. That would leave Pittsburgh just two spots out of the basement, ahead of only Georgia Tech and NC State.

Pittsburgh had a tough time stringing together victories last season. The Panthers won more than two consecutive games just once all year, beating Florida State, NC State and North Carolina in succession during February. The season ended with an ACC tourney loss to Boston College.

The Skyhawks are 7-2 ATS in their last nine Monday games and 19-40 ATS in their last 59 road games. Pitt is 1-4 ATS in their last five Monday games and 0-5 ATS in their last five overall.

PICK: I’m probably staying with Pittsburgh. The Panthers have had it rough over the past couple of seasons, and it’s getting tough to remember when the team was above .500 for the season. The good news is that Pittsburgh retains some competent names in year five of the Jeff Capel era—namely forward John Hughley (14.8 PPG; 7.9 RPG last year). Nelly Cummings comes over from Bowling Green and should provide some quality minutes as well. This should be a very winnable game if the Panthers start strong.
