The Albany Great Danes and the Presbyterian Blue Hose meet Tuesday in college basketball action from Ocean Center. Albany is 2-4 on the season so far and coming off a loss to Austin Peay. Albany went 2-2 over their first four games this year, beating Immaculata 74-47 and Union NY 87-75 while otherwise falling to Towson 67-62 and Siena 75-62. Game five was another loss, this time 99-79 to Saint Joseph’s.
In the Monday matchup versus Austin Peay, the Danes took a 32-30 lead into the locker room. In the second half Albany was outscored 44-27 from there in a 74-59 loss. Leading scorers Gerald Drumgoole and Da’Kquan Davis each had 13 points.
Over on the Presbyterian side, they managed a win over Piedmont International in their 2022-23 opener 76-42. The Blue Hose hit a losing streak after that however, falling to the Citadel, East Carolina and UAB in the next trio.
In Monday’s matchup versus Bucknell, Presbyterian’s losing streak continued. The Blue Hose trailed 31-26 at halftime and fell 66-65 even though the team played better in the second half. Tops in scoring was Winston Hill with 15 points.
PICK: I’m going to stick with Presbyterian in this one. We should have a pretty good matchup here regardless, though. The Blue Hose had a bad first half in the Bucknell game, and ended up shooting just 39 percent from the floor. Presbyterian is obviously going to need to improve there.
As for Albany, they were off to a nice start against Austin Peay on Monday but things fell apart after halftime. The Great Danes haven’t performed terribly over their last few outings, but I don’t think they’ll have the legs to cover in this one.
