The Columbia Lions and the Providence Friars meet in college basketball action from the Amica Mutual Pavilion on Saturday afternoon

The Columbia Lions will look to rebound from an 81-79 loss to Binghamton in their last outing. Geronimo Rubio De La Rosa leads the Lions in scoring and rebounding with 13.9 PPG and 5.7 RPG while Zine Eddine Bedri has 10.1 PPG with 4.6 RPG as the only other double-digit scorer for Columbia so far this season. Avery Brown also has 9.3 PPG with a team-high 3.3 APG to lead the team in assists as well this season. As a team, Columbia is averaging 71 PPG on 43.1% shooting from the field, 32.6% from three point range and 67.1% from the foul line this season.

The Providence Friars will try to add to a 71-57 win over Merrimack in their last game. Bryce Hopkins leads the Friars in scoring and rebounding with 15.5 PPG and 8.5 RPG while Ed Croswell has 11.2 PPG with 7.7 RPG and Jared Bynum also has 11.2 PPG with a team-high 5 APG to lead the Friars in assists this season. Noah Locke also has 11 PPG and Devin Carter has 10.8 PPG with 5.2 RPG to cap off the group of double-digit scorers for Providence so far this season. As a team, Providence is averaging 77.2 PPG on 46.1% shooting from the field, 35% from three and 75.5% from the foul line this season.

Columbia is 5-1 ATS in their last 6 road games against a team with a winning home record and 1-6 ATS in their last 7 Saturday games while the under is 5-0 in their last 5 games following an ATS win. Providence is 1-5 ATS in their last 6 home games against a team with a losing road record and 10-3 ATS in their last 13 Saturday games while the under is 7-2 in their last 9 games overall.

I get the case to be made either way in this game, but I’m focusing on the Friars here. The lone step up for Columbia this season saw them get more than doubled up against Rutgers and while I don’t think this year’s Providence team is as good as last year’s they’re still a decent group that can beat up on lesser teams when needed. I’ll side with Providence in this one.
