Purdue vs Minnesota 12/4/22 College Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds

The Minnesota Golden Gophers and the Purdue Boilermakers meet Sunday in college basketball action from Mackey Arena. Minnesota is 3-4 overall this year. The Gophers took a loss to Virginia Tech in their most recent game. As for Purdue, they’re sitting at 7-0 and coming off a win versus Florida State. Minnesota went 4-1 over their first five games this year. The loss came versus DePaul; the wins were over Western Michigan, St. Francis BK, Central Michigan and Cal Baptist. The Gophers lost their next pair of games to UNLV and Virginia Tech. 

In the Virginia Tech game on Monday, the Gophers were down 39-27 by halftime. Minnesota got a little better in the second half but still lost 67-57. Leading scorers Ta’Lon Cooper and Pharrel Payne each notched 13 points. 

Over on the Purdue side, it’s been smooth sailing so far. The Boilermakers have taken wins over Milwaukee, Austin Peay, Marquette, West Virginia, Gonzaga, Duke and Florida State in succession this year. 

On Wednesday versus Florida State, the Boilermakers had a slim 34-32 lead by the break. Purdue scored 45 points in the second half during a 79-69 win. Leading the scoring was Zach Edey with 25 points and eight rebounds.

PICK: I’ll probably stay with Purdue in this one. The Boilermakers are off to a nice start on the season, and they’ve already taken care of some tough opponents. Purdue is coming off a well-rounded win versus Florida State, shooting 46.4 percent from the field with a 46-31 rebounding advantage (12-7 offensive). The Boilermakers have scored 75 points or more in six of their seven outings this year. 

As for Minnesota, they’re coming off a rough outing versus a good Virginia Tech team and things aren’t going to get any easier here. If Purdue is on point it won’t take long for the Boilermakers to pull away.
