Richmond vs Clemson 12/17/22 College Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds

The Clemson Tigers and the Richmond Spiders meet Saturday in college basketball action from Bon Secours Wellness Arena. Clemson is 8-3 overall this year. The Tigers are coming off a blowout loss to Loyola. As for Richmond, they’re 5-5 after a win over Fairleigh Dickinson in their most recent outing. Clemson went 4-2 over their first six games this year, beating the Citadel, USC Upstate, Bellarmine and Loyola MD. The Tigers beat California, Penn State, Wake Forest and Towson over their next four outings. 

Clemson’s win streak was halted in its tracks by Loyola IL last weekend. The Tigers were down 37-26 by halftime in that game and limped to a 76-58 loss. Leading team scorer Chase Hunter put up 13 points with two rebounds.

Over on the Richmond side, their .500 season has consisted of wins over VMI, Northern Iowa, Temple, Drake and Fairleigh Dickinson. The losses otherwise have come versus Charleston, Wichita State, Syracuse, Toledo and William & Mary. 

In the Fairleigh Dickinson game on Tuesday, the Spiders took a mammoth 42-9 lead into the break. Richmond cruised in the second half and ended up with a 77-48 blowout win. Isaiah Bigelow led the way on 17 points and six boards. 

PICK: I’ll probably stay with Clemson. The Tigers need a bounce-back effort after the Loyola loss, though. Clemson shot a tepid 38.9 percent from the field in that one with just 3-of-21 (14.3 percent) on 3-point shots. Still, the Tigers had a nice scoring run going prior to that with 77 or more points in three straight games. As for Richmond, they’ve hit a combined 159 points in their last pair of outings and should put up a decent total here as well. I like Clemson to cover but it should be an interesting matchup.
