The Denver Pioneers and the Sacramento State Hornets meet Wednesday in college basketball action from Hornet Gym. Denver is 8-1 overall this year and fresh off a win over Texas A&M-Commerce. As for Sacramento State, they’re 3-5 on the season. The Hornets lost to Santa Clara in their last game. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.

Denver lost to Sacramento State in game three 73-69. Otherwise it’s been wins over Idaho, Colorado College, Idaho State, IUPUI, the Citadel, New Orleans, Houston Christian and Texas A&M-Commerce this year.

In the matchup versus Texas A&M-Commerce back on Sunday, Denver was down 39-35 going into the second half. The Pioneers rallied on 49 points and took the comeback win 84-75. Tommy Bruner led the way on 20 points and five assists.

Over on the Sacramento State side, they went 3-1 over their first four games with wins over UC San Diego, Denver and UC Merced. The Hornets lost to UC Davis, Hawaii, Southern Utah and Santa Clara in the next quartet.

On Saturday versus Santa Clara, Sacramento State was within two points at the break. The Hornets couldn’t keep up with a 46-41 second-half deficit in a 72-65 loss. Callum McRae doubled up with 15 points and 14 rebounds in that one.

PICK: I’ll probably take Denver here. This is an interesting matchup, as these teams already met back on November 14. Sacramento State took a 73-69 win in that one, overcoming a three-point halftime deficit with a 40-33 run. Denver seems primed for a revenge game here. The Pioneers have scored 68 or more points in every game so far, and if Denver is playing to their capabilities they should be able to take a cover. It’ll be a fun one.
