The Iowa Hawkeyes and the TCU Horned Frogs meet in college basketball action from the Arena at Northwest Florida State College on Saturday night.
The Iowa Hawkeyes will look to build on their 5-0 start after a 74-71 win over Clemson in their last game. Kris Murray leads the Hawkeyes in scoring with 23.8 PPG along with 8 RPG while Patrick McCaffery has 15 PPG with 5.3 RPG and Tony Perkins has 13.3 PPG with a team-high 5.3 APG to lead the Hawkeyes in the assist department. Filip Rebraca also has 10.3 PPG with a team-high 8.5 RPG to lead the Hawkeyes on the glass while Payton Sandfort has 10 PPG to cap off the scoring in double figures for Iowa up to this point in the year. As a team, Iowa is averaging 91.6 PPG on 48.3% shooting from the field, 36.8% from three and 77.6% from the foul line this season.
The TCU Horned Frogs will try to build on their 4-1 start after a 59-48 win over Cal last time out. Mike Miles Jr. has 20.5 PPG along with 5.5 RPG and 4 APG. Emanuel Miller has 13.3 PPG with 5.8 RPG and Chuck O’Bannon Jr. has 10.8 PPG with 4.5 RPG this season to cap off the group of double-digit scorers for TCU so far this season. Eddie Lampkin Jr. has a team-high 6.5 RPG to lead the Horned Frogs on the glass while Shahada Wells has a team-high 5.8 APG to lead TCU in the assist department. As a team, TCU is averaging 73.4 PPG on 42.4% shooting from the field, 24.3% from three and 69.4% from the foul line this season.
I get the case to be made for the Horned Frogs in spots, but the problem is that TCU hasn’t really faced a good team to this point and it almost feels like the best team they’ll have faced was the winless Cal team they just beat on Friday. Iowa’s the better team by a wide margin here and while they cut it close on Friday, I think the Hawkeyes wake up offensively and blow by TCU here.
