SMU vs Jackson State 12/3/22 College Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds

The Jackson State Tigers and the SMU Mustangs meet Saturday in college basketball action from SMU Moody Coliseum. Jackson State comes into this matchup at 0-6 overall. The Tigers lost to Miami-OH in their last game on Tuesday. As for SMU, they’re 3-4 this year following a loss to Texas A&M in their most recent appearance. Jackson State hasn’t had any luck in the win column so far this year. The Tigers have lost six straight, falling to Abilene Christian, Tulsa, Little Rock, Michigan, Indiana and Miami-OH in succession. 

In the Miami-OH matchup on Tuesday, Jackson State hit a 45-32 deficit by the break. The Tigers gave up 50 more points in the second half in a 95-78 loss. Leading scorer Coltie Young managed 20 points with three rebounds. 

Over on the SMU side, they went 2-2 over their first four games with wins over Texas A&M-Commerce and Evansville alongside losses to Dayton and New Mexico. After a loss to Louisiana, SMU beat Lamar in game six. 

On Wednesday versus Texas A&M, the Mustangs were down 45-36 by halftime. SMU was outscored 38-28 from there in an 83-64 loss. Tops in scoring was Zhuric Phelps with 23 points. Both Stefan Todorovic and Samuell Williamson put up 10 points apiece. 

PICK: I’m staying with SMU. The Mustangs are coming off a rough matchup versus a pretty good Texas A&M team, and they really didn’t stand much of a chance in that one. SMU has fared reasonably well in comparable matchups so far this year though, and they’ve got 72 or more points in two of their last three games. Jackson State has given up 78 or more points in each of the last five games, so SMU should have plenty of scoring opportunities in this one.
