Southern Mississippi vs Montana 11/29/22 College Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds

The Montana Grizzlies and the Southern Miss Golden Eagles meet Tuesday in college basketball action from Reed Green Coliseum. Montana is 3-4 overall this year. The Grizzlies lost to Air Force in their last outing. As for Southern Miss, they’re rolling along at 7-0 after a win over Mobile on Sunday. Montana lost their first two games of the year, falling to Duquesne and Xavier. The Grizzlies bounced back with wins over St. Thomas MN and Merrimack before a loss to Troy and a win versus MSU-Northern. 

On Sunday versus Air Force, Montana lost another one. The Grizzlies trailed 24-23 at the break and couldn’t close the gap in a 59-56 loss. Brandon Whitney topped the team on 17 points, and Josh Bannan had 15 points with six boards. 

Over on the Southern Miss side, it’s been smooth sailing so far. The Golden Eagles took out William Carey, Vanderbilt, Loyola, Liberty, Winthrop and Fort Wayne across their first six games for a hot start. 

Southern Miss kept it going in Sunday’s game versus Mobile. The Golden Eagles scored 53 points in the first half and 50 more after the break in a 103-52 blowout win. Tops in scoring was Austin Crowley with 24 points. 

PICK: I’m probably staying with Southern Miss. The Golden Eagles have really only had one close call so far this year—a four-point road win over Liberty. Southern Miss hasn’t exactly faced elite-level talent in the early-going but they’ve certainly taken care of business. The Eagles are scoring well this year, with 70 or more points in six of seven games. 

As for Montana, they’ve had their ups and downs. The Grizzlies are really struggling on offense: they’ve hit 64 or fewer points in six of their seven games. Southern Miss shouldn’t have much trouble covering if they’re playing well.
