St. John’s vs LIU 11/29/22 College Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds

The Long Island University Sharks and the St. John’s Red Storm meet Tuesday in college basketball action from Carnesecca Arena. LIU enters this one at 1-4 overall after a loss to Northern Illinois last week. As for St. John’s, they’re currently 7-0 this year. The Red Storm beat Niagara in their last game. Long Island lost to Utah in their opener to the 2022-23 season, but then picked up a win over Mount St. Vincent. The next two outings for the Sharks were losses however, 95-58 to Marquette and 68-58 versus South Dakota. 

On Wednesday versus Northern Illinois, Long Island fell behind 50-27 by halftime. The Sharks kept the pace from there in an 86-61 loss. RJ Greene was the top scorer in that one with 14 points. Quion Burns and Marko Maletic each scored 12 points. 

Over on the St. John’s side, it’s been a smooth ride so far—outside of a few close calls. The Storm took out Merrimack, Lafayette, Central CT State, Nebraska, Temple and Syracuse over their first half-dozen games. 

In the Saturday matchup versus Niagara, St. John’s carried a 37-28 lead into the break. The Red Storm held on from there and emerged with a win 78-70. Joel Soriano doubled up to lead the team with 21 points and 19 boards. 

PICK: I’ll probably stay with St. John’s in this one. That said, even though this is essentially an undefeated team versus a winless team it may not be such a simple proposition to cover. St. John’s is coming off a tepid shooting outing with 39.4 percent from the field and 3-of-15 (20 percent) from 3-point range. The Red Storm still bagged 78 points with those numbers (and 23 points from the foul line) and got off to a hot start. LIU shouldn’t offer too much resistance unless they’re playing near-perfect basketball.
