The Charlotte 49ers and the UAB Blazers meet in college basketball action from the Bartow Arena on Thursday.
The Charlotte 49ers will look to build on their 80-46 win over Monm0uth in their last outing to push their win streak to five games. Igor Milicic Jr. leads the 49ers in scoring with 10.5 PPG along with 5.8 RPG as the only double-digit scorer for Charlotte so far this season. Aly Khalifa also has 9.6 PPG with team-highs of 7.3 RPG and 3.8 APG to lead the 49ers in rebounding and assists as well on the year. As a team, Charlotte is averaging 68.8 PPG on 47.7% shooting from the field, 37.4% from three-point range and 74.8% from the foul line this season.
The UAB Blazers will try to build on a 92-66 win over Southern last time out. Jordan Walker leads UAB in scoring with 24.6 PPG and 5.2 APG while KJ Buffen has 11.5 PPG and 7.1 RPG this season. Eric Gaines also has 10.7 PPG with 4.7 APG to cap off the group of double-digit scorers for UAB while Trey Jemison has 7.5 RPG to lead the Blazers on the glass. As a team, UAB is averaging 87.9 PPG on 48.2% shooting from the field, 35.6% from three-point range and 76.3% from the foul line this season.
Charlotte is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games against a team with a winning record while the over is 5-1-1 in their last 7 road games against a team with a winning home record. UAB is 1-9-1 ATS in their last 11 games following a win and 1-6 ATS in their last 7 games following a win by 20 or more points while the over is 7-1 in their last 8 games against a team with a winning percentage above .600.
I get the reasoning for UAB being favored at home here, but I’m giving the 49ers the benefit of the doubt as the 49ers have played solid defense and while UAB has a dynamic offense that’s one of the best in the country, the defense has taken a back seat at times and has allowed teams to hang around. I think we could see more of the same here, as the underdog’s covered in 16 of the last 18 meetings between these two. Give me the 49ers and the points.
