The Binghamton Bearcats and the UMBC Retrievers meet Tuesday in college basketball action from Chesapeake Employers Insurance Arena. Binghamton sits at 11-15 this year. Binghamton had a 6-2 stretch going back in January, but other than that the team hasn’t had much success this season. The Bearcats last took out UMass Lowell, and since then they’ve lost to Vermont and New Hampshire.
On Saturday versus New Hampshire, the Bearcats kept the pace in the first half at 28-28. Binghamton was outscored 34-38 from there in an eventual 66-62 loss. Christian Hinckson led the team on his 15 points and 14 rebounds.
Over on the UMBC side, they were sitting at 6-10 back in mid-January but they’ve founds some footing in the record column since then. The Retrievers are riding a 3-1 streak right now with wins over Stony Brook, Hartford and Maine.
In the Maine game on Saturday, the Retrievers posted a 52-28 run in the first half. UMBC was outscored by 10 points from there but still won 93-79. LJ Owens was the top team scorer with his 20 points, four assists and four rebounds.
UMBC is 4-1-1 ATS in their last six Tuesday games and the over is 4-0 in their last four overall. The over is 4-1 in the Retrievers’ last five at home.
Meanwhile, the Bearcats are 7-2 ATS in their last nine road games and 0-4 ATS in their last four Tuesday games. The under is 8-2 in Binghamton’s last 10 overall.
PICK: I’m going to stay with UMBC here. The Retrievers are currently on a 9-3 run. They’re scoring pretty well during that time, with 68 or more points in nine of those 12 games. This matchup could prove to be tricky, though; the last time these teams met up, UMBC escaped with a tight 70-68 road victory. That said, with the recent success and the move to familiar territory I think the Retrievers have the inside track on a cover.
