Vanderbilt vs Southern Mississippi 11/11/22 College Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds

The Southern Miss Golden Eagles and the Vanderbilt Commodores meet Friday in college basketball action from Vanderbilt University Memorial Gym. Southern Miss is coming off an opener victory versus William Carey. As for Vanderbilt, they’re 0-1 so far following a loss to Memphis back on Monday. Southern Miss had a rough season in 2021-22, going just 7-26 overall with a 1-17 record in Conference USA play. The Eagles landed in last place in the West Division with that effort and eventually lost to FAU in the conference tourney. 

In their first game of the year versus William Carey, Southern Miss got off to a good start. The Golden Eagles started slow with 27 first-half points, then turned it on in the second for a 75-42 win. Austin Crowley led the team with 15 points and three rebounds.

Over on the Vanderbilt side, they posted a 19-17 overall run in 2021-22. The Commodores managed a 7-11 record in the SEC, putting the team ahead of only Missouri, Ole Miss and Georgia. Vanderbilt made it to the Quarterfinals of the NIT. 

Matched up against Memphis in their first game of the year, the Commodores had a rough first half with just 22 points. Vanderbilt would eventually lose 76-67. Tops on the team in scoring was Tyrin Lawrence with 14 points and four boards. 

PICK: I’m going to stay with Vanderbilt in this one. Sure, the Commodores looked pretty rough in the first half of their loss to Memphis. Vanderbilt shot 41.1 percent from the field and was out-rebounded 35-28 but the team got better after halftime. The Commodores should match up much better versus Southern Miss, and I think Vanderbilt can post a cover here if they get off to a good start.
