Wake Forest vs South Carolina State 11/23/22 College Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds

The South Carolina State Bulldogs and the Wake Forest Demon Deacons meet Wednesday in college basketball action from LJVM Coliseum. South Carolina State enters this matchup at 0-5 so far. The Bulldogs lost to North Florida in their last outing. As for Wake Forest, they’re 4-1 following a loss to LMU in their last game. South Carolina State hasn’t had any luck in the win column this year, but the team has been competitive. The Bulldogs lost to South Carolina 80-77 in the opener, then fell to Tennessee State 80-61, Duquesne 96-71 and Kentucky 106-63. 

In Saturday’s matchup versus North Florida, South Carolina State posted a 32-28 halftime advantage. The Bulldogs couldn’t hang on however and loss 72-66. Rakeim Gary led the team on 15 points, and Raquan Brown had 11 points with eight boards. 

Over on the Wake Forest side, they got off to a nice start this year at 4-0. The Deacons beat Fairfield 71-59 in their opener, then took care of Georgia 81-71. The next pair were wins over Utah Valley and La Salle. 

On Sunday versus LMU, Wake Forest took their first loss of the year. The Deacons outscored the Lions 40-30 in the second half to force overtime but ended up losing 77-75. Tyree Appleby led the team on 19 points, eight rebounds and eight assists. 

PICK: I’m going to stay with Wake Forest. It’s a thick line though, so I’m not touching it. The Deacons had a rough outcome in their matchup versus LMU, but overall they didn’t play too badly. The outlier stats were Wake’s 63.2 percent (12-of-19) from the line and the 18 turnovers. As for South Carolina State, they’ve had some tough matchups but they seem to be competitive versus comparable teams. I think Wake Forest will be just a bit too much for the Bulldogs, though.
