Wichita State vs Texas Southern 12/22/22 College Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds

The Texas Southern Tigers and the Wichita State Shockers meet Thursday in college basketball action from Charles Koch Arena. Texas Southern is currently 3-8 overall this year. The Tigers beat Hampton in their last matchup. As for Wichita State, they’re sitting at 6-5 after a loss to Oklahoma State. Texas Southern managed to win just one of their first eight games this year, falling to San Francisco, Texas Tech, Oral Roberts, Houston, Auburn, Samford and Kansas otherwise. The Tigers are 2-1 since with a lone loss to NC A&T. 

On Sunday versus Hampton, Texas Southern had things all tied up at 37-37 by halftime. The Tigers posted a 45-40 run in the second half to take a win 82-77. Kehlin Farooq led the team on 19 points and eight rebounds. 

Over on the Wichita State side, they went 4-2 over their first six games with losses to Alcorn State and San Francisco. The Shockers are 2-3 in their last five with losses to Missouri, Kansas State and Oklahoma State. 

Back on Saturday matched up against Oklahoma State, the Shockers trailed 32-26 by the break. Wichita State posted just 23 points in the second half in a 59-49 loss. The only team double-digit scorer was Craig Porter with 14 points and seven boards. 

PICK: I might take a stab on Texas Southern here. The Tigers have been pretty competitive over their last three games, going 2-1 with the lone loss coming by a single point. Texas Southern’s other victory was against a good Arizona State team back in mid-November, so the Tigers are certainly capable of stepping up against better teams. Given that Wichita State has struggled a bit with 50 or fewer points in two of their last four games, I think it’s conceivable to see a Texas Southern cover in this one.
