The South Dakota Coyotes and the Wisconsin Badgers meet Monday in college basketball action from Kohl Center. South Dakota enters this one after a 19-12 overall record last year and a fifth-place finish in the Summit League standings. As for Wisconsin, they went 25-8 overall in 2021-22 and earned a co-championship in the Big Ten regular season. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.

South Dakota had their ups and downs last season, but for the most part the team was competitive in a tricky Summit League. The Coyotes went 19-12 overall and 11-7 in conference play. That left the team in fifth place in the standings behind South Dakota State, North Dakota State, Kansas City and Oral Roberts.

The Coyotes finished the non-conference slate at 7-4 overall; just one of those losses was by fewer than nine points, though. After storming through the conference schedule, South Dakota beat Kansas City in the Summit League Tournament before falling to South Dakota State.

Over on the Wisconsin side, they forged their way through a monstrously talented Big Ten Conference last season. The Badgers would ultimately go 25-8 overall and 15-5 in conference play. Wisconsin shared the regular-season co-championship with Illinois.

Despite their great play in the regular season, Wisconsin stumbled in the Big Ten Tournament. The Badgers lost in their first game to Michigan State, but still make the national tourney. Unfortunately that was a disappointment as well; Wisconsin lost to Iowa State in the Second Round.

The Coyotes are 8-2 ATS in their last 10 road games and 7-2 ATS in their last nine overall. Wisconsin is 2-6-1 ATS in their last nine Monday games and 0-4 ATS in their last four overall.

PICK: I might take a stab on South Dakota here. By most estimations, Wisconsin won’t be quite as formidable in 2022-23 as they were last season. The Badgers have lost All-American Johnny Davis to the NBA and Brad Davison has graduated after five seasons. Returning players Chucky Hepburn, Tyler Wahl and Steven Crown will have to fill in the holes. Depth may be an issue for Wisconsin, and they’ll be relying on a handful of youngsters and role players. I think the team will still do pretty well this season, but it may take a few games to find their rhythm.
