The Davidson Wildcats and the Wright State Raiders meet in college basketball action from the Nutter Center on Wednesday night.

The Davidson Wildcats will be looking to build on their season-opening win over Guilford last time out. Foster Loyer led the Wildcats with 30 points on 7 of 12 shooting with 6 threes and a 10 of 11 mark from the foul line along with 4 steals while Grant Huffman had 13 points and David Skogman had 12 points off of the bench. Sam Mennenga had 11 points with a team-high 11 rebounds for the double-double while Reed Bailey added 10 points to round out the scoring in double figures for the Wildcats in the winning effort.

The Wright State Raiders will hope to kick off 2022-23 on a high note after going 22-14 in 2021-22, finishing with a 15-7 mark in Horizon League conference play. The Raiders, as the 4-seed, took out Oakland, Cleveland State and Northern Kentucky on the way to lifting the Horizon League tournament crown. As a 16-seed, the Raiders won their play in over Bryant but lost in the first round to Arizona, ending their season. The big blow for Wright State will be replacing their top two players in Tanner Holden (20.1 PPG, 7.1 RPG) and Grant Basile (18.4 PPG, 8.5 RPG), but the Raiders do bring back Trey Calvin (14.6 PPG, 3.4 APG) and also bring in Amari Davis (9 PPG) as a senior transfer from Green Bay.

Davidson is 1-4 ATS in their last 5 road games and 3-8 ATS in their last 11 Wednesday games while the over is 4-1 in their last 5 games overall. Wright State is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall and 6-2 ATS in their last 8 home games while the over is 10-3 in their last 13 Wednesday games.

I get the allure of a home underdog, especially early on when teams are still getting their feet wet. However, the Wildcats have had a game to shake off the rust, and not only that, side by side, I feel that Davidson is the better team in this game. Wright State has some work to do in terms of building cohesion and proving that they can live after losing their best player in Tanner Holden to the transfer portal. I just think even on the road, Davidson ends up being too much here so I’ll back the Wildcats laying the points.
