The Arizona State Sun Devils and the California Golden Bears meet Saturday in college basketball action from Haas Pavilion. Arizona State is fresh off a Thursday matchup versus Stanford. The Sun Devils went on to win by four points there. As for California, they played Arizona in their Thursday game. In that one the Golden Bears fell in blowout fashion. Arizona State Sun Devils
Arizona State posted a pretty solid 13-3 start over their first 16 games of the year. The Sun Devils would go on to a 3-5 stretch in the next eight outings however, falling to UCLA, USC, Washington, Washington State and Oregon in that time.
In the Stanford game on Thursday, Arizona State hit halftime with a 33-33 tie. The Sun Devils managed a 36-32 run in the second half and pulled off the road win 69-65. DJ Horne posted 18 points and Devan Cambridge put up 10 points and 10 rebounds.
California Golden Bears
Over on the California side, they won just one of their first 14 games (versus TX-Arlington). The Bears got mildly better from there on a 2-7 run over the next nine, falling to Washington State, Washington, Oregon, Oregon State, Stanford, Colorado and Utah along the way.
Matched up against Arizona on Thursday, the Bears were outscored 44-32 in the first half. California didn’t get any closer on a 41-30 second half and lost 85-62. Sam Alajiki put up 12 points with six rebounds in the defeat.

I’ll probably stick with Arizona State in this one. The Sun Devils are playing decent basketball over their last three outings: a 2-1 stretch with a five-point loss to Oregon. Arizona State has hit 68 or more points in all three of those games, and 66 or more in five of their last six. As for California, it’s been a struggle this year to say the least. The Bears haven’t scored more than 62 points for six straight games and there’s not much hope for a decent total here either. The Sun Devils should have an open road to a cover if they play well, but I’m probably staying away from this one.
