Charleston Southern vs Longwood 1/4/23 College Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds

The Longwood Lancers and the Charleston Southern Buccaneers meet Wednesday in college basketball action from CSU Field House. Longwood is 10-5 overall this year. The Lancers beat Campbell in their last game. As for Charleston Southern, they’re 5-8 on the season after a win over USC Upstate this past weekend. Longwood went 4-4 over their first eight games this year, losing to Alabama George Mason, SIU Edwardsville and San Diego. The Lancers are 6-1 since then, beating Delaware State, St. Francis BK, the Citadel, SC State, High Point and Campbell. 

Matched up against Campbell on Saturday, Longwood took a 38-20 lead into the second half. The Lancers cruised on a 29-22 run from there and won the game 67-42. Isaiah Wilkins, Walyn Napper and Michael Christmas each scored 11 points. 

Over on the Charleston Southern side, they went 2-6 over their first eight games with wins over only Toccoa Falls and Bethune-Cookman. The Buccaneers have since hit a 3-2 stretch with wins over Tennessee State, Kentucky Christian and USC Upstate. 

In the USC Upstate game, the Buccaneers were up 42-38 at the break. Charleston Southern scored another 48 points from there and won 90-85. Claudell Harris led the team with 21 points and two rebounds. 

PICK: I’ll probably stay with Longwood. The Lancers are on a nice run right now and scoring pretty well along the way. The Lancers have won five straight games and scored 67 or more points in each of their last four. Considering Charleston Southern has given up 67 or more points in nine straight outings, Longwood should have plenty of scoring opportunities in this matchup. I think the Lancers will be fine on a cover.
