The La Salle Explorers and the Duquesne Dukes meet Wednesday in Atlantic 10 Tournament college basketball action from Barclays Center. La Salle sits at 14-18 overall this year. The Explorers beat Rhode Island in tournament activity on Tuesday. As for Duquesne, they’re 20-11 this year after a loss to Fordham on Saturday. La Salle Explorers

The Explorers didn’t quite hit .500 through 24 games this year, landing at 11-13 overall. La Salle would then beat UMass and Richmond before losses to George Mason, Duquesne, George Washington, Dayton and Loyola IL in succession.

In Tuesday’s tournament matchup versus Rhode Island, La Salle jumped out to a 39-24 halftime lead. The Explorers cruised from there on a 34-32 second half and took the win 73-56. Leading the way was Jhamir Brickus with 18 points and two rebounds.

Duquesne Dukes

Over on the Dukes’ side, they managed a 16-8 run over their first 24 outings of the season. Duquesne finished off the year with a 4-3 stretch, beating St. Bonaventure, Saint Joseph’s, La Salle and UMass with losses otherwise to Saint Louis, Davidson and Fordham.

In the Fordham game on Saturday, the Dukes faced a 45-32 deficit at the break. Duquesne fell even further behind in the second on a 42-28 run and lost badly 87-60. Joe Reece was the team’s leading scorer on 16 points and four rebounds.

ANDREW’S FREE PICK

I’ll probably stay with Duquesne, but I’m also probably not going near it. The Dukes are coming off a pretty ugly road loss to a good Fordham team, and they’re just 1-2 in their last three outings. The good news is that Duquesne’s offense is still doing pretty well lately with 67 or more points in six straight outings. These teams have met just once this year, back on February 22 at Tom Gola Arena. Duquesne had a modest three-point lead at the break in that one, but then hit a 50-36 second-half run for a 91-74 victory. La Salle is coming off a nice effort versus Rhode Island in the tournament game Tuesday, but I don’t think they’ll stick a cover in this rematch.

Andrew's Free Pick: Duquesne Dukes -7.5
