Iona vs Fairfield 1/13/23 College Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds

The Fairfield Stags and the Iona Gaels meet Friday in college basketball action from Hynes Athletic Center. Fairfield is 6-9 overall this season. The Stags lost to Niagara in their last matchup. As for Iona, they’re they’re currently 11-5 after a loss to Quinnipiac on Sunday. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.

Fairfield was 5-7 after 12 games this year, beating Towson, Evansville, Saint Peter’s, Sacred Heart and Coast Guard. The Stags have since gone 1-2 with a win over Marist and losses to Siena and Niagara. 

Back on Friday versus Niagara, the Stags posted 26 points in the first half, 37 in the second and six in overtime during a 77-66 defeat. Supreme Cook led the way on a double-double with 17 points and 17 boards. Caleb Fields added 17 points as well. 

Over on the Iona side, they were 8-4 after 12 games with losses to Hofstra, Santa Clara, New Mexico and SMU. The Gaels are 3-1 since with wins over Pepperdine, Saint Peter’s and Marist before a loss to Quinnipiac. 

Matched up against Quinnipiac on Sunday, the Gaels were outscored 42-28 in the first half and 39-30 in the second half on the way to a blowout loss 81-58. Daniss Jenkins led the way on 17 points, and Nelly Junior Joseph put up 10 points with 10 rebounds.

PICK: I’ll probably stick with Iona. Also probably staying away, though; the line’s quite thick here. The Gaels posted a pretty flat effort against a good Quinnipiac team in their last outing however, so they’ll need a bounce-back performance in this one. Iona hasn’t had too much trouble scoring; they’ve hit 70 or more points in all but one game so far this year. As for Fairfield, it wouldn’t be surprising to see a decent total from them either; the Stags have hit 69 or more points in three of their last four outings. That said, I don’t think Fairfield will keep pace if Iona gets going.
