Iona vs Quinnipiac Pick – Basketball Predictions & Odds 1/29/23

The Quinnipiac Bobcats and the Iona Gaels meet Sunday in college basketball action from Hynes Athletic Center. Quinnipiac is sitting at 15-5 on the season so far. The Bobcats beat Canisius in their last matchup. As for Iona, they’re fresh off a Friday game versus Siena. In that one the Gaels fell by 17 points. Quinnipiac Bobcats 

Quinnipiac was 11-5 at the 16-game mark this year, losing to Hofstra, Niagara, Saint Peter’s, Penn State and Siena along the way. The Bobcats have since won versus Iona, Saint Peter’s Mount St. Mary’s and Canisius. 

Last Sunday versus Canisius, the Bobcats hit a 42-31 run during the first half. Quinnipiac had to scramble a bit in the second half after giving up 51 more points, but eventually won 87-82. Ike Nweke led the team on 24 points and seven rebounds. 

Iona Gaels 

Over on the Iona side, they were also 11-5 through 16 games, losing to Hofstra, Santa Clara, New Mexico, SMU and Quinnipiac. The Gaels hit a 2-1 run in the next trio with wins over Fairfield and Manhattan. 

On Friday versus Siena, the Gaels were up 36-33 going into the second half. Iona was destroyed 37-17 from there and lost 70-53. Tops in scoring was Nelly Junior Joseph with 15 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double. 

ANDREW’S FREE PICK 

I’ll probably stick with Quinnipiac. You could probably make a case either way here, though—even with Iona’s bad showing in the second half of Friday’s Siena matchup. The Bobcats took a convincing win 81-58 back on January 8 at TD Bank Sports Center when these teams last met. Quinnipiac scored 42 in the first half and cruised from there. The Gaels have scored pretty well overall this year, and with the comfortable atmosphere of Hynes Athletic Center in this one I can see Iona doing well in this rematch. Should be a good one to watch.
