The Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions and the Jackson State Tigers meet Monday in college basketball action from Williams Assembly Center. AR-Pine Bluff is fresh off a Saturday game versus Alcorn State. The Lions went on to lose by just three points. As for Jackson State, they played MS Valley State in their Saturday game. AR-Pine Bluff Golden Lions
Arkansas-Pine Bluff didn’t start out the year so well; they went just 5-11 over the first 16 outings. The Golden Lions put up a 5-1 streak in the next six with wins over Prairie View, Florida A&M, Bethune-Cookman, Southern U and MS Valley State, however.
On Saturday versus Alcorn State, the Lions were down 36-23 in the locker room. AR-Pine Bluff got better from there with a 44-34 run but still lost 70-67. AC Curry was the top team scorer on 18 points and three boards.
Jackson State Tigers
Over on the Jackson State side, they started out on a rough run themselves with a 4-12 record through 16 games. The Tigers went 2-4 over their next six with losses to Prairie View, Texas Southern, Grambling State and Southern U.
In the Saturday game versus MS Valley State, the Tigers were up 40-37 going into the second half. Jackson State was outpaced 45-38 from there and lost 82-78. Both Romelle Mansel (17 points; 10 rebounds) and Zeke Cook (14 points; 12 rebounds) doubled up.

I’m leaning toward AR-Pine Bluff, but probably staying away from this one. Both teams are coming off losses so it’s tough to know how each will respond. That said, the Lions are still playing pretty well lately and they’re on a 6-2 run. AR-Pine Bluff has hit 67 or more points in six of those eight games as well. As for Jackson State, they took a rough loss to a struggling MS Valley State team on Saturday and they’ve scored 66 or fewer points in three of the last four outings. AR-Pine Bluff should be able to keep pace here but I’m not touching it.
