Jacksonville State vs Jacksonville 1/14/23 College Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds

The Jacksonville Dolphins and the Jacksonville State Gamecocks meet Saturday in college basketball action from Pete Matthews Coliseum. Jacksonville is coming off a Thursday game versus Kennesaw State. In that matchup the Dolphins fell by 13 points. As for Jacksonville State, they played North Florida in their Thursday game. Jacksonville posted a 7-5 run over their first 12 games. The losses came to Duke, UAB, UNCW, Notre Dame and FGCU. The Dolphins hit a 2-1 stretch in the next three outings with wins over Jacksonville State and Lipscomb. 

In the Kennesaw State game on Thursday, the Dolphins were down 38-33 going into the second half. Jacksonville fell further behind on a 43-35 deficit and lost 81-68. Jordan Davis led the team with his 16 points and five boards. 

Over on the Jacksonville State side, they went 6-6 to start the year with wins over Shorter, Elon, North Dakota State, East Tennessee State, Reinhardt and Little Rock. A 1-4 stretch came after that with losses to North Alabama, Jacksonville, Liberty and Bellarmine. 

Matched up against North Florida on Thursday, Jacksonville State managed a 31-29 advantage in the first half and a 41-34 run in the second for a 72-63 win. Leading scorer Carter Hendricksen put up 20 points with eight rebounds. 

PICK: I’ll probably stay with Jacksonville. Neither team has been all that impressive lately however, so I’m probably not touching this one. That said, these teams met up back on January 2 in a 62-46 win for the Dolphins. Jacksonville has just one win in the three games since then however, and they haven’t eclipsed 68 points in seven straight outings. The Gamecocks haven’t fared much better; they’ve been at 62 points or below in four of their last five. I like this one to be slightly more competitive in an eventual Dolphins cover/win.
