The Texas Longhorns and the Kansas Jayhawks meet Monday in college basketball action from Allen Fieldhouse. Texas is coming off a Saturday game against Kansas State. In that one the Longhorns powered out a three-point victory. As for Kansas, they played Iowa State in their Saturday outing. The Jayhawks ended up with a 15-point loss there. Texas Longhorns

Texas came out of the gate this year on a nice 14-2 stretch, losing to only Illinois and Kansas State. The Longhorns hit a 4-2 run after that with wins over Texas Tech, West Virginia, Oklahoma State and Baylor alongside losses to Iowa State and Tennessee.

On Saturday versus Kansas State, the Longhorns trailed 36-25 at halftime. Texas went on a wild 44-30 run from that point and ended up with the comeback win 69-66, though. Jabari Rice doubled up on 14 points and 10 rebounds in the victory and Christian Bishop added 14 points of his own.

Kansas Jayhawks

Over on the Kansas side, they rolled to a 15-1 start with a lone loss to Tennessee in that time. Over the next six games the Jayhawks hit a 3-3 stretch, beating Iowa State, Kentucky and Kansas State with losses otherwise to Kansas State, TCU and Baylor.

Matched up against Iowa State on Saturday, the Jayhawks were down 33-21 going into the second half. Kansas tried to fight back but ended on a 35-32 deficit in a 68-53 loss. Jalen Wilson was the leading team scorer with 26 points and nine rebounds.

ANDREW’S FREE PICK

I’ll probably stick with Texas. The Longhorns are fresh off a nice win over a very good Kansas State team, shooting 45.1 percent with 30 rebounds and 15 team assists along the way. Texas is now 4-1 in their last five games, but they’re not through the gauntlet of ranked teams on the schedule just yet. As for Kansas, they shot a tepid 38.6 percent with 20 turnovers in the Iowa State loss on Saturday. That defeat takes some of the luster off of this matchup, but it should still be a great game. So long as Texas doesn’t have that “big win hangover” in this one I think they’ll have a great shot at a cover (and maybe even a win). Should be a fun one to watch.
