Wisconsin Badgers

The Badgers posted a 13-10 record over their first 23 outings this year. Since then it’s been a 3-4 stretch for Wisconsin. The wins have come versus Penn State, Michigan and Iowa; the losses otherwise were to Nebraska, Rutgers, Michigan and Purdue.

Matched up against Purdue on Thursday, the Badgers went into halftime down 31-27. Wisconsin stayed competitive in the second on a 34-32 advantage but still lost 63-61. Max Klesmit was the top team scorer with 19 points and four rebounds.

Minnesota Golden Gophers

Over on the Minnesota side, they were sitting at just 7-14 at the 21-game mark this year. The Gophers would then lose to Maryland, Iowa, Penn State, Illinois, Maryland again and Nebraska before a one-point victory over Rutgers on Thursday.

In the Rutgers game, the Golden Gophers were down 40-33 in the locker room. Minnesota came back on a 42-34 second-half run and took the comeback victory 75-74. Jamison Battle was tops on 20 points and Pharrel Payne doubled on 15 points and 10 rebounds.

ANDREW’S FREE PICK

I’ll probably stay with Wisconsin in this one. Neither one of these teams has had much success in the win column lately though, so you could make a case either way. Wisconsin is just 1-3 in their last four games, but they’ve been within two points or fewer in two of those three losses. These teams have already met up this year; January 3 at Kohl Center. That one was a tight matchup, with Wisconsin going into the second half up 32-26 and hanging on for the 63-60 win. This one’s probably going to be quite competitive as well. Wisconsin needs a victory here in order to have a shot at the No. 10 seed in the conference tournament; I think they’ll pull it off.
