Florida Gulf Coast Eagles
Florida Gulf Coast managed a 14-10 record over their first 24 games this year. The Eagles have since gone a sketchy 3-4 with losses to North Alabama, Stetson (twice), and Lipscomb. The wins came versus North Florida, Jacksonville and Austin Peay.
In the Austin Peay game on Friday, Florida Gulf Coast drilled the Governors 62-37 in the first half. The Eagles cruised on 27 more points and ended up with an 89-71 victory. Chase Johnson doubled up on 23 points with 10 rebounds in the win.
Queens NC Royals
Over on the Queens NC side, they were 15-9 at the 24-game mark this year. The Royals are just 2-5 since then with losses to Eastern Kentucky, Bellarmine, Jacksonville State and Liberty (twice) alongside wins over Austin Peay and Kennesaw State.
Matched up against Liberty in Friday’s game, the Royals were down 26-24 going into the break. Queens NC was outscored 47-29 from there and lost 73-53. Chris Ashby and Kenny Dye led the team with nine points apiece.
ANDREW’S FREE PICK
I have to stick with Florida Gulf Coast here. It’ll be a pretty interesting and competitive matchup if both teams play well, though. The Eagles halted a three-game losing streak with their win over Austin Peay on Friday, but they’d been fairly competitive in that trio of losses. These teams last met up back on January 26 at Levine Center Curry Arena. That one ended up as an 84-82 Queens NC win thanks to a 52-45 second half. This one should be close most of the way as well, and I like Florida Gulf Coast to power out the cover/win in the end.
