Saint Joseph’s vs Rhode Island Pick – Basketball Predictions & Odds 2/1/23

The Rhode Island Rams and the St. Joseph’s Hawks meet Wednesday in college basketball action from Hagan Arena. Rhode Island is 8-13 on the season so far. The Rams beat La Salle in their last game. Rhode Island Rams 

Rhode Island went just 5-10 over their first 15 games this year, beating Stony Brook, Illinois State, Army, UMass Lowell and Fordham. The Rams are 3-3 since then with losses to UMass, Richmond and George Mason. 

In the La Salle matchup back on Saturday, the Rams were down 40-29 going into the second half. Rhode Island hit a 43-30 run from there and won 72-70. Ishmael Leggett was tops in scoring with 20 points and six boards. 

Saint Joseph’s Hawks 

Over on the Saint Joseph’s side, they beat only Lafayette, Albany, Penn, Saint Peter’s, Sacred Heart and Central CT State in their first 16 games. The Hawks have gone 4-3 since then with losses to Fordham, Duquesne and George Washington. 

Matched up against George Mason on Sunday, the Hawks were up 35-33 by the break. Saint Joseph’s powered out a 44-43 run in the second for a 79-76 win. Erik Reynolds led the way on 30 points, and Lynn Greer doubled on 18 points and 11 rebounds.

I’ll probably stick with Saint Joseph’s here. We should have a pretty even matchup on our hands if both teams play well, though. The Hawks are coming off a nice win over a decent George Mason team, and they’re looking better over this current 4-1 run. Saint Joseph’s has scored 71 or more points in ll five of those games. As for Rhode Island, they get credit for a nice comeback win over La Salle on Saturday, and they’ve hit 72 or more points in three straight games. I like the Rams to hang around for a while here before Saint Joseph’s powers out the eventual cover.
