The VMI Keydets and the Samford Bulldogs meet Wednesday in college basketball action from Pete Hanna Center. VMI is 5-10 overall this year. The Keydets lost to East Tennessee State in their last game. As for Samford, they’re 8-7 overall following a win versus the Citadel over the weekend. VMI started out the year at 4-6, taking wins over Penn State NK, Regent VA, Navy and Carlow. Since then the Keydets are just 1-4 with losses to American, Fordham, Furman and East Tennessee State in that time.

On Saturday versus East Tennessee State, the Keydets scored just 25 points in each half and limped to a 64-50 defeat. Sean Conway led the team on 12 points with six rebounds, and Tyler Houser posted 11 points.

Over on the Samford side, they were 6-4 after 10 games this year, losing to LA Tech, UT Southern, DePaul and UCF. The Bulldogs would lose three more straight games before wins over Mercer and the Citadel.

Matched up against the Citadel, the Bulldogs went into the break with a 30-25 edge. Samford kept it up with a 45-38 second half and took the win 75-63. Logan Dye scored 20 points and Jermaine Marshall doubled on 13 points and 10 rebounds.

PICK: I’ll probably go with Samford. The Bulldogs had a rough stretch of seven straight losses going there for a while, but they’ve righted the ship since then. Samford played some pretty tough teams during their losing streak and a handful of them were very close calls. The Bulldogs have scored a combined 153 points over their last two games however, and should post a good number here. VMI has given up 69 or more points in three of the four games during this losing streak.
