The Texas Longhorns and the Tennessee Volunteers meet Saturday in college basketball action from Thompson-Boling Arena. Texas is 17-3 on the year so far. The Longhorns beat Oklahoma State in their last matchup on Tuesday. As for Tennessee, they’re currently 17-3 as well after a blowout win over Georgia State on Wednesday. Texas Longhorns
The Longhorns kicked off the year on a 12-2 run over their first 14 games. The losses in that time came to Illinois and Kansas State. Texas is 5-1 since then, losing to Iowa State with wins otherwise versus Oklahoma State (twice), TCU, Texas Tech and West Virginia.
In the rematch game versus Oklahoma State on Tuesday, the Longhorns carved out a 40-32 edge by the break. Texas kept it up with a 49-43 run from there and won it 89-75. Marcus Carr led the team on 21 points with five assists.
Tennessee Volunteers
Over on the Tennessee side, they were 14-2 through 16 games this year, taking losses to only Colorado and Arizona. Since then the Volunteers have gone 3-1 with a loss to Kentucky before wins versus Mississippi State, LSU and Georgia.
Matched up against Georgia on Wednesday, Tennessee held a 35-22 lead going into the second half. The Volunteers surged on a 35-19 run from there and won it 70-41. Zakai Zeigler led the way on 11 points and seven assists.

I’m probably going to stick with Tennessee. You could probably make a case either way here, though; it’ll be a great matchup and one of the highlights of the Saturday college basketball slate. In any case, Tennessee has had their offense working pretty well lately with 70 or more points in every win during this current 6-1 stretch. The Volunteers put up just 56 versus Kentucky in a home game on January 14 however, and also got out-rebounded 43-23 (13-4 offensive). As for Texas, their only blemish in the last six games was a 78-67 loss to Iowa State. The Longhorns have scored 67 or more points in five straight outings; they should be able to keep pace pretty well in this one. I’m leaning Tennessee cover-wise, but it’ll be a great game to watch regardless.
