Oklahoma State Cowboys

Oklahoma State’s season was on a 15-9 stretch through their first 24 games. The Cowboys finished off the schedule with a rough 2-5 run featuring losses to Kansas, TCU, West Virginia, Kansas State and Baylor. The wins were over Iowa State and Texas Tech otherwise.

On Wednesday in their tournament matchup versus Oklahoma, Oklahoma State held a 26-20 halftime edge. The Cowboys posted a 31-29 run from there and got the victory 57-49. Caleb Asberry was the lead scorer on 15 points, and Tyreek Smith contributed 14 rebounds.

Texas Longhorns

Over on the Texas side, they managed a solid 19-5 run over their first 24 games this year. The Longhorns closed out the year on a 4-3 stretch, beating West Virginia, Oklahoma, Iowa State and Kansas with losses to Texas Tech, Baylor and TCU otherwise.

Back on Saturday versus Kansas, the Longhorns jumped out to a 32-24 halftime lead. Texas kept it up in the second with a 43-35 run and took the big win 75-59. Topping the team was Jabari Rice with 23 points, and Tyrese Hunter added 20 more points.

ANDREW’S FREE PICK

I’ll probably stay with Texas in this one. Also probably not touching it, though. It’s easy to be high on the Longhorns right now following that great win over Kansas on Saturday. That said, Texas had lost three of their previous five games—all on the road—despite putting up some good offensive numbers along the way. Texas has won both meetings between these teams this year. First was a 56-46 road win on January 7, then an 89-75 victory at Moody Center on January 24. Oklahoma State is coming off a gritty win over Oklahoma, but they’d previously been giving up a lot of offense on the other side. If Texas plays to their capabilities they shouldn’t have too many issues scoring.
