Towson vs Hampton Pick – Basketball Predictions & Odds 2/8/23

The Hampton Pirates and the Towson Tigers meet Wednesday in college basketball action from SECU Arena. Hampton is 6-18 overall this season. The Pirates lost to Norfolk State in their last game. Hampton Pirates 

Hampton kicked off the year on a difficult run, going just 3-13 through their first 16 outings. The Pirates are 3-5 since then. The losses in that time have come to William & Mary, NC A&T, Drexel, Stony Brook and Norfolk State. 

In the Norfolk State matchup on Saturday, the Pirates took a slim 36-35 edge into the locker room. Hampton was outscored 48-35 from there and lost 83-71. Marquis Godwin posted 21 points and Kyrese Mullen doubled on 10 points and 10 rebounds. 

Towson Tigers 

Over on the Towson side, they managed a 10-6 run through 16 games to start out the season. The Tigers are 6-2 in their last eight with wins over Monmouth, Hofstra, NC A&T, Elon, Northeastern and William & Mary. 

Back on Thursday versus Hofstra in the rematch, the Tigers held a 34-31 edge going into the second half. Towson was outscored 45-38 from there and lost 76-72. Nicolas Timberlake topped the team on 32 points and four rebounds.

I’ll stay with Towson here. The line’s probably too thick to play around with, though. The Tigers faded in the second half in their last game against a pretty good Hofstra team, which stopped their six-game win streak. That said, Towson has still been rolling offensively with 66 or more points in seven straight outings. As for Hampton, they’re 3-2 over their last five games with 66 or more points in four of those outings. The Pirates are still giving up pretty hefty points totals to capable offenses though, so Towson should have plenty of room to score in this one.
