Wichita State Shockers

Wichita State managed to go .500 over their first 22 outings this year at 11-11 overall. The Shockers posted a 5-3 run over their final eight games with wins over Tulsa, SMU, Temple, Tulane and South Florida during that time.

On Thursday in the tournament versus Tulsa, Wichita State held a 30-25 lead by halftime. The Shockers posted a 51-38 run in the second for a nice 81-63 victory. Craig Porter managed a double-double in the win with 10 points and 11 assists.

Tulane Green Wave

Tulane managed to go 14-7 through their first 21 outings of the year. The Wave closed out the regular season with a 5-3 run, beating Memphis, Cincinnati, South Florida, East Carolina and Temple with losses to Houston, Wichita State and East Carolina.

In the Temple matchup on Sunday, the Wave were up 44-34 going into the second half. Tulane was outscored 48-39 from there but held on for the 83-82 victory. Jalen Cook was the top team scorer on 24 points and five assists.

ANDREW’S FREE PICK

I’ll probably stick with Tulane here. It’s a real toss-up, though. The Wave had a bad second half versus Temple in their last game, but to their credit Tulane still stuck out the victory. It’s been a pretty nice scoring run for Tulane lately, with 68 or more points in 10 of their last 11 games. As for Wichita, they’re 3-1 in their last four games and have scored 69 or more points in all three of those wins. These teams have met up twice this year, with the road team winning each time. Tulane got a 95-90 victory back on January 25, and Wichita State returned the favor with an 83-76 result on February 26. This one should be close as well; I’m leaning Tulane but I could probably go either way.
