The Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders and the UTSA Roadrunners meet Thursday in college basketball action from UTSA Convocation Center. Middle Tennessee is 9-5 overall this year. The Raiders beat Western Kentucky in their last outing. As for UTSA, they’re 6-8 on the season after a loss to UAB over the weekend. Middle Tennessee hit a 7-3 run through their first 10 games this year, falling to Winthrop, Missouri State and St. Bonaventure along the way. The Raiders are 2-2 since then with wins over Murray State and Western Kentucky.
Matched up against Western Kentucky on Saturday, the Raiders were down 27-19 going into the second half. Middle Tennessee stormed back with 46 points from there in a 65-60 comeback win. Teafale Lenard topped the team on 19 points.
Over on the UTSA side, they lost to Texas A&M-CC, Grambling State, Dartmouth, New Mexico and Utah during their 5-5 start. The Roadrunners are just 1-3 since then with losses to North Texas, LA Tech and UAB.
In the UAB game on Saturday, the Roadrunners were drilled 52-29 in the first half. UTSA kept the pace from there but couldn’t come back in a 90-67 loss. Japhet Medor led the team with his 21 points and six assists.
PICK: I’ll probably go with Middle Tennessee. Also probably staying away here; both teams are struggling over their last handful of games. The Blue Raiders get credit for a nice second-half comeback against a decent Western Kentucky team in their last outing. Middle Tennessee has been below 70 points in four of their last seven games but can score well given the right matchup. UTSA has given up 69 or more points in six straight games, so the Blue Raiders should have some quality opportunities to put up points in this one.
