Alabama State won just one of their first 12 games, a 67-58 affair versus Eastern Illinois. The Hornets are 3-2 since then with wins over Lane, MS Valley State and AR-Pine Bluff before losses to Jackson State and Alcorn State.

Last Monday versus Alcorn State, the Hornets were down 40-38 going into the second half. Alabama State was outscored 52-38 from there and lost 92-76. Alex Anderson was the lead team scorer on 13 points with six boards.

Over on the Alabama A&M side, they were 4-8 through 12 games with wins over UT Southern, Fisk, Rust and Lipscomb. The Bulldogs are 2-3 in their last five games with losses to Ohio State, Alcorn State and Jackson State.

Matched up against Jackson State last Monday, the Bulldogs took a 36-29 deficit into the break. Alabama A&M didn’t end up getting any closer and fell 72-64. Messiah Thompson put up a team-high 17 points with five rebounds.

PICK: I’ll probably stick with Alabama A&M. There’s really not a ton of intrigue involved in this one, though; neither team has been doing well this year. That said, it should be a fairly competitive matchup. Alabama A&M has posted 76 or more points in two of their last three games and if they can get into the 70s here I think they’ll be in good shape. As for Alabama State, they’ve hit 70 or more in four of their last five outings so they’re on a nice scoring run as well. Ultimately I think the Bulldogs will cover, but it’ll be an entertaining matchup.
