The Lions opened the year on a rough 5-10 run, but then beat Texas Southern, Florida A&M, Bethune-Cookman, Grambling and MS Valley State in the next six games. AR-Pine Bluff would then lose to Prairie View, Alcorn State and Jackson State before another win over Alabama State.

Matched up against Alabama State on Saturday, the Golden Lions held a slim lead 41-39 by halftime. AR-Pine Bluff held the Hornets back on a 39-35 run from there and took the win 80-74 in the end. Rashad Williams came off the bench to post 33 points with six rebounds.

Over on the Bulldogs’ side, they only won three of their first 20 games over Tennessee State, AR-Pine Bluff and MS Valley State. Alabama A&M has gone 4-1 since then with wins over Florida A&M, Bethune-Cookman, Grambling and MS Valley State (with a loss to Southern).

Over the weekend versus MS Valley State, the Bulldogs were able to keep the Delta Devils winless. Alabama A&M came into the second half with a two-point lead then hit a 49-29 run for a win 80-57. Lorenzo Downey was the team’s top scorer on 13 points with seven boards.

ANDREW’S FREE AR-PINE BLUFF VS ALABAMA A&M PREDICTION

I’ll stick with Alabama A&M. Granted, there’s not a lot to get excited about in this one but it should be a competitive game. The Bulldogs shot a solid 49 percent from the field against a struggling MS Valley State team in their last game, adding 34 rebounds and 28 points off 18 turnovers. It was a nice bounce-back on the scoreboard after a combined 122 points in their previous two games.

These teams last saw each other on January 6 in a 63-62 road win for the Bulldogs. Alabama A&M shot 50 percent in that one with a 44-22 rebounding advantage but also coughed up 26 turnovers that led to 30 AR-Pine Bluff points. The Bulldogs will need to control the ball much better here.
