The Samford Bulldogs and the Alabama State Hornets meet in college basketball action from the Dunn-Oliver Acadome on Wednesday night.
The Samford Bulldogs will look to bounce back from an 85-73 loss at the hands of Belmont last time out. Ques Glover leads the Bulldogs in scoring and assists with 18.8 PPG and 4.6 APG while Jermaine Marshall has 13 PPG with a team-high 8.6 RPG to lead the Bulldogs on the glass. Jaden Campbell has 10.8 PPG to make up the trio of double-digit scorers for Samford up to this point in the season. As a team, Samford is averaging 79.3 PPG on 42.5% shooting from the field, 34.9% from three and 78.3% from the foul line while allowing 74.3 PPG on 46.1% shooting from the field and 35.7% from three this season.
The Alabama State Hornets will try to bounce back from a 93-54 loss to Dayton last time out. Gerald Liddell and Trace Young each have a team-high 10.8 PPG to make up the pair of double-digit scorers for Alabama State up to this point in the year with Liddell logging a team-high 2.2 APG. Jordan O’Neal has 9.3 PPG with a team-high 5.4 RPG and Christian McCray has 9 PPG as well this season. As a team, Alabama State is averaging 71.3 PPG on 44.8% shooting from the field, 33.5% from three and 67.4% from the foul line while allowing 81.8 PPG on 43.7% shooting from the floor and 32% from three this season.
Samford is 9-1-1 ATS in their last 11 road games following three or more straight home games and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games following an ATS win while the over is 3-0-1 in their last 4 games overall. Alabama State is 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games following a loss and 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games against a team with a winning percentage above .600 while the over is 4-0 in their last 4 games overall.
I get the case that could be made for Alabama State here, but realistically the only covers that Alabama State have mustered up this season have come with a big load of points. Samford already has a true road win over an Oregon State team that has a bulk of their team that made the tournament last year and I think this should be a cakewalk if you’re Samford, even on the road. Give me the Bulldogs in this one.
