American vs Loyola-Maryland 1/2/23 College Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds

The Loyola-Maryland Greyhounds and the American Eagles meet in college basketball action from the Render Arena on Monday afternoon.

The Loyola-Maryland Greyhounds will look to rebound from a 101-67 loss to Colgate in their last game. Jaylin Andrews leads the Greyhounds in scoring with 11.5 PPG along with 4 RPG while Kenneth Jones has 11 PPG and a team-high 3.6 APG to lead the Greyhounds in assists as the only other player to score in double figures for Loyola-Maryland this season. Golden Dike also has a team-high 5.8 RPG for the Greyhounds this season. As a team, Loyola-Maryland is averaging 66.9 PPG on 44.6% shooting from the field, 35.6% from three and 63.3% from the foul line this season.

The American Eagles will try to build on a 60-47 win over Lafayette last time out. Matt Rogers leads American in scoring with 13.8 PPG and 5.3 RPG while Johnny O’Neil has 11.8 PPG and a team-high 6 RPG to lead American in rebounding and Geoff Sprouse has 10.2 PPG with 2.3 APG to finish off the group of double-digit scorers for American up to this point in the season. Elijah Stephens has a team-high 4.4 APG to lead the Eagles in assists this season. As a team, American is averaging 67.5 PPG on 49.7% shooting from the field, 36.8% from three and 71.1% from the foul line this season.

Loyola-Maryland is 1-8 ATS in their last 9 Monday games and 1-6 ATS in their last 7 road games against a team with a home winning percentage above .600 while the under is 4-0 in their last 4 road games following three or more consecutive home games. American is 7-1 ATS in their last 8 games against a team with a losing record and 6-0 ATS in their last 6 games against a team with a winning percentage below .400 while the under is 3-0-1 in their last 4 games overall.

I get the case to be made for a decent-sized underdog in conference play like the Greyhounds, but the problem here is that American’s the far better team and Loyola-Maryland’s been getting crushed so far in conference play and in their recent road games. I just think American proves to be too much here, so give me American laying the points here.
