Morehead State Eagles
Morehead State kicked off their year on a pretty shaky stretch, going just 9-7 over the first 16 games. The Eagles are much improved since then however, with a 7-2 run. The losses in that time came versus Tennessee Tech and SEMO.
On Saturday versus Southern Indiana, the Eagles scored 35 points in the first half, 24 in the second half and 12 in overtime for a hard-fought 71-66 win. Tops in scoring was Mark Freeman with 16 points and four rebounds.
Little Rock Trojans
Over on the Little Rock side, they stumbled out of the gate this year on a 5-11 stretch through their first 16 outings. The Trojans are 2-7 since then, falling to SEMO, Southern Indiana, Eastern Illinois, Tennessee Tech, Morehead State, SEMO again and SIUE.
In the SIU Edwardsville matchup on Saturday, the Trojans were down 46-37 at the break. Little Rock fought back in the second half on a 44-38 run but still lost 84-81. DeAntoni Gordon was the leading team scorer on 21 points and seven rebounds.
ANDREW’S FREE PICK
I’ll probably stick with Morehead State here. The Eagles have won six straight games, scoring 67 or more in four of those outings. The last time these teams met up was a close call, though. Morehead State powered out a 76-72 win at Ellis Johnson Arena on January 26, scoring 38 points in each half. The Eagles are a better team than that—on paper at least—and I like them to rally for a road cover/win in this one. You wouldn’t be crazy to take a stab on Little Rock at home, however.
