The Memphis Tigers and the Auburn Tigers meet Saturday in college basketball action from Philips Arena. Memphis is 7-2 overall this year. The Tigers beat Little Rock in their last game. Memphis went 2-2 over their first four games this year, losing to Saint Louis and Seton Hall. The Tigers hit a five-game win streak after that, beating Nebraska, Stanford, North Alabama, Ole Miss and Little Rock.
In the Little Rock game on Tuesday, Memphis was up 46-30 by halftime. The Tigers scored another 41 points from there and won 87-71. DeAndre Williams led the team with 17 points, and Jayden Hardaway added 16 points.
Over on the Auburn side, it’s been smooth sailing so far—with a couple of close calls. The Tigers have beaten George Mason, South Florida, Winthrop, TX Southern, Bradley, Northwestern, St. Louis and Colgate in succession this year.
Last Friday versus Colgate, Auburn scored 47 points in the first half and another 46 in the second for a 93-66 victory. KD Johnson scored 16 points, and both Wendell Green and Johni Broome added 13 points apiece.
PICK: I might take a stab on Memphis here. The Tigers posted a nice effort against Little Rock in their last outing, with 54 percent shooting, 37 rebounds and 18 assists. Memphis has hit 68 or more points in five of their last six games, and they’ll likely need to put up a good total here as well.
As for Auburn, they’ve been playing great this year. Auburn does have two games decided by five points or fewer though (Saint Louis and Northwestern), so if Memphis is on point I think they can get in on a cover/win.
