I’m going to take a stab on Butler here but you could probably argue it either way. The Bulldogs have looked pretty good through two games so far this year, but to be fair they’ve played two overmatched teams. In the Lafayette matchup on Monday Butler shot a nice 48 percent from the field and 94 percent (16-of-17) at the line alongside a dominant 51-28 rebounding edge. The Bulldogs held the Leopards to just 37 percent shooting from the field but also committed 20 turnovers along the way. In game two versus Fairleigh Dickinson, Butler got their turnovers under control a little better (11) and shot 54 percent from the field with a 41-22 rebounding edge. The free throws (44 percent on 7-of-16) weren’t quite there, though.
As for Boise State, they’ve got just one game finished so far but it was also a blowout win versus an overmatched squad in West Coast Baptist. The Broncos shot a cool 58 percent in that one with a ridiculous 67-18 rebounding advantage and just 28 percent shooting allowed on defense. Boise State’s free-throw shooting (62 percent on 18-of-29) could have been better but that’s just about the only gripe. Sunday’s game will serve as the first real test for both teams, and it should be a pretty fun matchup.
