Georgetown Hoyas
Georgetown hit the skids to open the season, going a rough 5-15 through their first 20 outings. The Hoyas are just 1-6 since then with losses to St. John’s, Creighton, UConn, Providence, Marquette and Seton Hall in that time.
On Tuesday versus Seton Hall, the Hoyas were down 27-20 going into the second half. Georgetown scored another 48 points from there but still lost 76-68. Amir Spears was the leading team scorer with 16 points and five assists.
Butler Bulldogs
Over on the Butler side, they hit a sketchy 11-9 run through their first 20 games this year. The Bulldogs are 2-5 since then with losses to UCOnn, Providence, Seton Hall, Marquette and Villanova alongside wins versus St. John’s and Xavier.
In the Villanova matchup on Valentine’s Day, the Bulldogs trailed 25-24 going into the second half. Butler was outscored 37-26 from there and lost 62-50. Leading team scorer Jayden Taylor put up 20 points with three assists.
ANDREW’S FREE PICK
I’ll stick with Butler in this one. Granted, there’s not a lot to get excited about here with both teams struggling lately but it should be a pretty good matchup regardless. Butler had a pair of nice consecutive wins over St. John’s and Xavier recently, however it’s been a futile run against some tough teams in their last eight games otherwise. These teams last met up back on New Year’s Day in an 80-51 blowout win for Butler at Capital One Arena. This one probably won’t be so lopsided but I still like the Bulldogs on a cover slightly better.
