The Citadel began their season versus Clemson. The Bulldogs trailed 45-31 at halftime in that one and ended up with an 80-69 loss. In game two versus Presbyterian, the Citadel got their first win of the year 70-58.

Back on Tuesday versus Morris College, the Citadel didn’t have much trouble at all. The Bulldogs stormed out to a 54-30 lead at halftime, then scored 55 more points in a 109-66 victory. Stephen Clark doubled up in the win with 21 points and 10 boards.

Over on the Butler side, their year began with a fairly easy matchup against New Orleans. The Bulldogs managed a 46-21 halftime lead and an 89-53 victory. Game two was against Penn State, and Butler couldn’t keep the pace in a 68-62 defeat.

In their Thursday matchup versus St. Francis PA, Butler was up 44-33 by halftime. The Bulldogs turned in a nice second-half performance 51-34 en route to a 95-67 blowout win. Chuck Harris topped the team with 22 points and seven assists.

PICK: I’m going to take a stab on Butler. They’ve been competitive in all three games so far and hung pretty well with Penn State in their lone loss. Butler shot an insane 70.4 percent from the field against St. Francis PA in their last outing, notching 30 rebounds and 21 assists in a great overall performance. That number won’t be eclipsed here obviously, but Butler seems primed for a cover.
